I'm really excited to announce that my debut poetry collection, The Light, the Dark, and the Fog, is now available. Self-publishing a book, let alone a poetry collection, was never on the bucket list. Poetry for me was always something I did when I needed a creative release, and I never felt that it was my strongest method of expression.
The thing is I've been struggling to maintain a regular writing practice for YEARS. Even after the ADHD diagnosis and my attempts to recover from mental illness, my novel has sat neglected and I've spent many days creatively starved. Writing is something my friends, family, psychologist, and psychiatrist have all been encouraging me to get back to, but I just couldn't motivate myself as much as I needed to.
I first saw an ad for BookLeaf's multi-national writing challenge one day when I was scrolling through Instagram. At first, I thought it was a scam, but as I explored their 20-day poetry challenge I realized there was little risk. I needed to commit to writing daily, and this would be an exciting way to do so. What came next were days of deep reflection and a variety of moods as I attempted to create a new poem each day while dealing with my own mental health. Were they perfect? No. Were they authentically mine? Absolutely. This was never part of the plan for my creative journey, but I think it was exactly what I needed. I hope you all can connect to what I've written and will support TLTDTF as it enters the world.
